The knee-jerk response of assigning every dissenting view as merely “hate” is just a lazy counter to constructive criticism. It is a dismissive attempt to avoid a meaningful exchange of opinion based on the merits of the subject matter. It is a way to justify the seemingly unjustifiable absent debate. A gentleman should be able to offer an opinion with candor, intelligence, reason, and respect. And conversely, a gentleman should be able to receive said criticism with openness, understanding, reason, and respect. Only through the exchange of well-thought perspectives can enlightenment and learning be achieved.
