Daddy Diary – 6 Ways to Bond With Your Baby During the First 6 Months

Ava & Father 3 Education

A gentleman must ensure that he is actively involved in the development of his child’s learning. Your child won’t miraculously commence to walking and talking on their own accord; they will certainly need some encouragement and loving support. So, that means extensive tummy time for daddy and baby to jump-start the crawling process. Sometimes, I would crawl around Ava so she would try and mimic my movements. Other times I would place a toy she liked just out of reach to provide some motivation.

And yes, I jumped the gun and bought a Leap Frog learning keyboard that teaches the alphabet, sounds, etc. – Ava was but a few weeks old. But hey, I was excited. So, I constantly talk to Ava, ensuring that she sees my mouth move and pronounce words. Sure, it may appear that your baby is looking at you with puzzled eyes, but rest assured, they are soaking up that information in their maturing brain. I make sure I read books to Ava. I ensure I point out different objects and their color. One of my favorite activities was taking Ava in the backyard (when it was warmer) and exploring nature with all the plants, birds, squirrels, and insects to be verbally documented. I even do silly stuff like counting the number of stairs I’m walking if I am carrying her. A child learns a lot during this stage in their life, make sure you are providing an abundance of knowledge.

  1. Spot on! I remember when my children were infants I did skin to skin with both of them and to this very day I show them affection. Everyday before I go to work I give both my son and daughter a hug & kiss then tell them how much I love them. “Being Hard” never made much sense to me, if something were to ever happen to me the one thing I want my kids to remember is how much I loved them unconditionally.

  2. Glen – Thanks for your encouraging post! Our little boy is just 4 months old and I identify with all these things, especially showering him with my affection. What greater way to show the Father’s love for us.
